"Great place to wonder around to understand the history of Shymkent and the rich traditions and culture of the people who lived here."

"I'm surprised by all the high ratings here. The structures have been restored with such a heavy hand that they look like modern construction. The whole place looks more like a theme park than an archeological site. That said, if you are visiting with small children, they will likely find this place more engaging than a more typical archeological site. Ticket price is 1000 tenge for foreign visitors which is double that for locals. Even so, the price is still quite reasonable."

"Mixed feelings. It is nice that they preserve the city’s history, but there is a lot of info lacking. There are some signs (also in English) with a few sentences of explenation here and there. However, I still don’t know a lot of historical or social context. Besides that it’s unclear to me which structures are reconstructions and which are actual parts of the ancient city. Entry is very cheap (only 1000KZT). Would recommend to visit when in Shymkent, but dont expect anything mindblowing. They could improve tve place a lot with some more signs, or maybe an audio guide, it has potential."
