What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Bab as-Siq an impressive and historically rich introduction to Petra, particularly appreciating the Obelisk Tomb's unique architecture and the blend of Egyptian and Nabataean styles. It's seen as a crucial first step before entering the main Siq canyon, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of the Nabataean civilization.
"Impressive remains from a couple of thousand years ago. You can see Greek architecture on the first two levels, then the Egyptian inspired obelisks atop. A nice sight to see as you begin your trek to the Treasury."
Gary Rogers
"The Obelisk Tomb is towered by four obelisks which is why it is so named. The Egyptians believed that the obelisk structure could guide the souls of the dead to the afterlife. Constructed in the first century BCE, the tomb is an elaborate two story tomb carved from the solid rock with influences of Egyptian, Greek, Indian and Nabataean architectural styles."
CK Cheong
"The Obelisk Tomb and Bab as-Siq Trail is the entrance to the Treasury at Petra and more! The entrance fees is 50 JOD for one day and 55 JOD for two days. I recommend the one day because it doesn’t need more than 7 hours to complete all the trails. A horse ride is included with the price but tips are expected, however, we have done it without and finished everything by foot so we could take in the amazing views."
