"Museum is not very big, but has most of the things (history and culture) covered. There is a temporary exhibition of inventions by Arab countries that kids should like. There is a short film tailored for the kids and shown in the mini cinema inside. Guards and staff are professional. Toilets on the ground floor are clean. Parking lot has lots of spaces. Have not noticed an elevator though. Annotations to items are well described in both Arabic and English. This museum is not inside Jordan pass and entry is not expensive."

"Wonderful place, well designed and built, it has two seprate musems, one for the local history which was very detailed, the other one is for inventions which is very helpful for kids to learn more about arabic and islamic scientists. You need at least 2 hours to complete the entire museums"

"I first went here to see two must see exhibitions at the Jordan Museum.
1. Ain Ghazal and 2. the Dead Sea Scrolls. It was Friday and of course open later at 2 pm. I was first inside. I paid my 5 jod since I am an American visiting Amman. They have lower fees for Jordanians etc. when you first arrive you realize a lot of money, time and thought has been given to the architecture and to the lay out of the museum. It’s well done and has a stately presence. Walking in I got a map but I asked to go directly to the Dead Sea Scrolls which is at the end of the tour on the first floor but I WANTED TO SPEND A LOT of time to absorb the display and take notes. YOU CANT TAKE PICTURES and I didn’t. Honestly I came close to buy rules are rules and it is a sacred exhibition that commands respect. Even though I know the story of the cave’s discovery by a shepherd boy I still was mesmerized by it all. I took notes and digested the information and I knew I would see it at the end one more time. Now the oldest astonishing statues in the world were found in Jordan during construction of a highway. These statues might not seem noteworthy but when you think of its historical value- it’s golden. I had first seen the statues at the Louvre but to see the information from the country where these important artifacts were found makes the visit priceless. These two collections would be important in any of the best museums in the world.
These two collections other information on the pre history of Jordan or Stone Age all the way to the Classical Periods is more than educational but helps the visitor”to explore the five drivers of change in our region.”

The exhibit of the Nabataeans is a must for anyone going to Petra. It puts their history into a nutshell and is quite impressive.
Plus put the two cherries of the sundae the DEAD SEA SCROLLS AND AIN GHAZAL STATUES on top of these five scoops of change then you too will share a magical day as I did. Yes I realize this is corny but I just want you to get the gist of the importance of this museum in Jordan.
But what will really grab your children is the SECOND FLOOR (there is an elevator) You first must see the video on great achievements of past inventors or scientists or educators of Jordan and the Arab world. Jordan’s influence on medicine, flight, time should make any Jordanian proud. Plus it’s not fake it’s historically factual. But what steals the show here is the interactive tools used here to get children and adults involved. I personally witnessed children truly enjoying the exhibition. Actually there are other interactive pieces through out the museum with the goal that ALL SHOULD BE INCLUDED in experiencing artifacts of the museum. Example, next the Ain Ghazal display there is a reproduction of one of the statues that you are ALLOWED TO TOUCH. Actually in this aspect of the museum it is as good as it gets in any other museum.
If I lived in Amman I would work on FRIENDS OF JORDAN MUSEUM. ALL museums need a support group to help the museum with its mission. In this case a gift shop and a cafe are in the plans but time and money are always needed to keep a museum going. But right now just give your support by your attendance.
by the way I spent three hours… but it is set up for those who want a quicker walk through to someone like me who needed time to explore, absorb, digest and ENJOY!!!"
