Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the surreal experience of floating effortlessly in the Dead Sea, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The unique salt formations and stunning sunsets are also frequently praised. However, some find the entrance fees steep and advise clarifying costs upfront, as well as being mindful of potential skin irritation from the high salinity.

"There are many beaches across this area but access to this beach specifically is closed. It would be much easier to go to another beach in the area so do not get too stuck on trying to go to this one specifically. Don't get me wrong the dead sea is great and you should definitely go to it, the only problem is the access to this beach is closed. Under this is going to be photos showing the access to the beach to hopefully show you all how it is blocked off (it will also show some of the surrounding area). Again there are many other beaches and even another free one so this is not your only option. About the Dead sea though, you should 10000% go and not only see it but go on it too. It is surreal how much and how easy you can float on it. As a swimmer myself I was able to float upright with half of my chest above the water just because of how salty the water is. Though one thing to think about with the salinity is if you have sensitive skin it will hurt after a while. Make sure to wash yourself after and moisturize to prevent your skin from going dry."

"Nice beach, the sea is wonderful, you float on the water as if you are in space, very good experience which you'll not find it elsewhere. The entrance is 20 JD (August 2018) and doesn't include the meals. In the entrance, they told us including meals, but after eating, they obliged us to pay 16 JD for a buffet meal and a fresh water drink. But the meal was excellent, the service too even if we payed twice. It was better to be well informed by publishing clearly the real conditions at the entrance."

Fahmi Hachicha

"If you are looking to get some ancient salt into your nose, then i suggest that this is the perfect stop. The entrance fee is very steep though. Fresh food and a small gift store. The best time to go would probably be asst the end of winter (northern side) If i hadn't journeyed with my son, i would have crossed illegally into the sea down south."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Science of Floating

The Dead Sea is renowned for its incredibly high salinity, approximately 34%, making it one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth. This extreme salt concentration results in a density far greater than that of the human body, allowing anyone to float effortlessly on its surface. It's a truly unique sensation, often described as feeling like you're suspended in space. TikTokReddit

This high salinity also means the water is rich in minerals like magnesium, sodium, potassium, and bromine. While beneficial for some skin conditions, prolonged exposure can cause dryness and irritation. It's crucial to heed the advice of limiting your time in the water and rinsing off thoroughly afterward to prevent discomfort. TikTok

Visitors often report a tingling sensation, especially if they have small cuts or have recently shaved. This is a direct result of the salt's interaction with the skin. Therefore, it's a common recommendation to avoid shaving for at least 24-48 hours before your visit to the Dead Sea. TikTok

Navigating Access: Resorts vs. Public Beaches

When planning your visit to the Dead Sea, understanding the access points is key. While 'Amman Beach' might be a name you hear, direct public access can sometimes be closed or restricted. Reddit Many visitors opt for the convenience and amenities offered by resorts along the Dead Sea coast. These resorts provide dedicated beach access, showers, changing rooms, lockers, and often restaurants and pools. Examples include O Beach Dead Sea Resort. Instagram

However, resorts come with an entrance fee, which can vary and sometimes include bundled services. Some travelers have noted that advertised inclusions, like meals, might incur additional charges. Reddit For a more budget-friendly and potentially less crowded experience, public beaches like Salt Beach are excellent alternatives. Instagram+1 These spots often offer free entry and a more natural, less developed environment, though amenities might be more basic. Researching the specific beach you plan to visit beforehand is highly recommended to manage expectations regarding access and facilities. Instagram

The Therapeutic Properties of Dead Sea Mud

Beyond the unique floating experience, the Dead Sea is also famous for its mineral-rich mud. This dark, viscous mud is packed with natural elements like sulfur, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which are believed to have therapeutic benefits for the skin. Reddit

Many visitors enjoy applying the mud to their bodies as a natural spa treatment. It's thought to help exfoliate the skin, improve circulation, and alleviate conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and arthritis. After letting the mud dry for about 15-20 minutes, it's rinsed off in the Dead Sea water, leaving the skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. Reddit

While the mud is readily available at most Dead Sea locations, it's advisable to use it in moderation. As with the water, excessive exposure to the minerals can potentially lead to skin dryness. Enjoying this natural spa treatment is a quintessential Dead Sea experience that complements the floating. Reddit
