What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Wadi Mujib offers a thrilling and unique water hiking experience through a spectacular canyon, with many praising the majestic rock formations and adventurous elements like natural slides. However, some visitors find the entrance fee quite high for the duration and experience, and suggest bringing personal gear to avoid extra rental costs. The age restriction means it's not suitable for families with younger children.
"We did the siq trail which is in the water. They will borrow you a waterproof bag or shoes, but I recommend bringing your own as it's an additional payment. The entrance fee is quite price at 23 JD per person. The experience is only for 18+.
It is self guided but with there are guides that can help you through difficult places. It's an alright experience. I would say it's not worth it for the price as the views are similar to those you will see in Petra, but if you like getting drenched and having a bit more adventurous experience on your trip, it might be for you."

"One of the finest water hiking areas in Jordan that is taken care of by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature.
Upon arrival, you park your vehicle in the parking lot and walk towards the visitor’s center. They have ample parking that is free.
You purchase a ticket for entrance, and with each ticket you get a swimming vest. Extras such as a waterproof bag come with a fee, and is on rental basis. Rubber shoes are purchased optionally. Entrance to the hiking area is strictly for folks of 18 years and older.
The common area has restrooms, changing rooms, a small shop, and a sitting area (has AC).
The trail itself is moderate-to-hard as it involves climbing stairs and using ropes. The length of the total trail is 1.5 KM (approximately 1 mile), and ends at a waterfall. You will need 1 hour in each direction.
Walking inwards is in the opposite direction to the water flow, and so extra effort is needed. The deepest it could get is around 1.5 meters. Jumping is not recommended. Upon returning back, you walk with the water flow, and must walk back with care. You can float as well.
At the hard points, you will find staff who can help you move on. You don’t need hiking experience, but do practice common sense and care.
Carry some water with you. Most of the trail is under the shade (since it is a narrow rocky passage similar to the Petra Siq).
The swimming vests smell bad, and should be washed on regular basis. They don’t have showers, and this is something else they must consider."

The Siq Trail Experience
Many visitors describe the canyon's sheer rock walls as breathtaking, comparing them favorably to famous canyons in the American Southwest. The trail culminates at a beautiful waterfall, providing a perfect spot for a refreshing dip and a sense of accomplishment. Remember, this trail is only open seasonally, typically from April to October, and is subject to weather conditions, especially the risk of flash floods.
While the trail is self-guided, park staff are strategically placed to offer assistance at more difficult sections, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. The entire trek is about 1.5 kilometers and usually takes between 2 to 3 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how often you stop to admire the scenery or take photos.
Essential Gear and Preparation
Another essential is a waterproof bag for your phone, camera, and other valuables. You can rent these at the center, but purchasing one beforehand is often more economical. Consider a dry bag or a waterproof phone pouch. Wear quick-drying clothing, as you will get thoroughly wet. Bringing a change of clothes and a towel for after the hike is also a must.
It's worth noting that the swimming vests provided can sometimes have an unpleasant odor, suggesting they might not be washed regularly. While the beginning of the trail is exposed to the sun, most of the canyon is shaded, so sunscreen might be optional for the hike itself, but advisable for before and after.
Understanding the Wadi Mujib Reserve
The geological formations within Wadi Mujib are spectacular, with towering sandstone cliffs that have been carved over millennia by the river's flow. These formations create a unique environment, offering a sense of adventure and discovery. The reserve's seasonal opening is a critical factor, as the area is prone to flash floods, making it unsafe during certain times of the year.
Visitors should be aware of the age restriction for the Siq Trail, which is 18 years and older, due to the physical demands and potential hazards. The experience is designed for those seeking an active and adventurous outing, offering a stark contrast to the more historical sites in Jordan.
