"I am writing in regards to my experience of visiting this particular outlet on the 25 1930I Sep 25.
We have, earlier in the evening, misplaced our item in this store.
Upon realisation, we ran back to locate the item.
I had to placed a drink i was carrying, on a table in order to free my hands to type a translated message and seek assistant from the store clerk.
Instead, the store clerk thought that it would be a good opportunity to instruct me to remove the drink i have placed on the table before even reading the request i have prepared.
The table has no signs or notices stating that nothing should be placed on it.
Despite my repeated request for her to first read what i have typed. She insisted that it be removed first, before reading.
I find her conduct, disgraceful.
First, there are no signs and notices stating that nothing should be placed on the table. I have committed no wrong, mistake. There wasn't any ill conduct on my part. I have also suggested to the store manager on duty for that night, that if nothing should be placed on the table, a sign and notice should be placed prominently.
Second, i should not be held hostage for my request via compliance to a make believe instruction. There is no transaction involved in assistance, it is only able or unable to assist.
Third, this also highlights the despicable behaviour of the clerk. For she not only is dictating unwritten terms and condition to the customer; refer to second point above, she is also capitalising her status as a Japanese to gatekeep information from foreigners who are at a disadvantage in the spoken and written language.
I have never encountered such behaviour in my travels in and around Japan until here, in this very store; a combination of racism and xenophobism.
The 5 water droplets on the table were still there, i not only wipe the droplets with the tissues i have, i wiped the whole table clean and dry; this is for dirtying their furniture which i take responsibility for.
I hope that the store can work on training its team, because there are alot of foreigners who visit this outlet. Others like me may have an unpleasant experience but chose not to say, but i chose to write it down to warn everyone who would read this."
