What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Kasumigaura Ring Ring Road for its peaceful, scenic, and largely safe cycling environment. The flat terrain and dedicated paths are a major draw, offering a rewarding experience for both leisurely rides and more serious cycling. Some sections require sharing the road, and planning for bike rental returns is essential.
"Peaceful, scenic & relatively safe cycling route in Tsuchiura. The cycling path is dedicated for the most part, except some sections where you need to cycle on the road. If you are uncomfortable with that, my suggestion is to go on the pedestrian paths for those sections but please be courteous and give way to pedestrians. Japanese are generally helpful and courteous in return so be a good tourist! There are various painted road surface indictors for the different cycling routes available. The maximum distance you can cover is 180km in one complete loop around the entire lake region. You can see resting points with toilets and bike parking almost every 5-10km there abouts. If you are renting from the bicycle shops, you need to plan ahead how long you will take to cycle the route you picked and still make it in time before the shop closes to return your bicycle. It closed at 7pm at the period we visited. We did a shorter version and u-turned back so that we just took a few good hours and not do the entire 180km loop. Overall, a no frills experience for cycling lovers out there who appreciate off the beaten track activities!"

"Best Cycling Course in Japan.
It’s more than 200km long with diverse view. This road is situated all the around the Lake Kasumigaura (2nd Biggest Lake in Japan) through Tsuchiura City, Tsukuba City and ends at Sakuragawa.
Around Lake Kasumigaura you enjoy the view of the lake, comfortable cold breeze; from Tsuchiura to Sakura gawa it’s just a spectacular dell of Cherry.
The whole course is almost flat. There’s some intersect from Tsuchiura to Kasumigaura. But other than that no other nuisance. Tsuchiura-Sakuragawa portion has some resting area facilities Toilet, resting bench, Cycling Pump, Free drinking water faucet. But I recommend to bring your own pump, food and drinks."
