Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Sanno Shrine for its unique charm, particularly its delightful animal carvings and the iconic 'half torii' gate. Many find it a peaceful and serene spot for prayer and reflection, appreciating the kindness of staff and the easy accessibility. Some note its connection to the larger Hie Shrine complex, adding to its appeal.

"I visited in the morning, and there was barely anyone there! It was very peaceful, so I nice place to stop and pray. There was a very cute dog statue! Apparently people come here on dog day to pray for safe deliveries... Also, I left my bag here, and the staff returned it to me, were very nice about it, and shared in my relief that I had found it! Very sweet of them. Definitely a hightlight of my Toyama trip.
The shrine itself was beautiful, and there were lots of lovely statues."

"Hie Shrine is about as cute as it gets. Hie is close to the temple quarter in Toyama where quite a few small Shrines and Temples can be found and enjoyed. Both the Torii and Main shrine are beautiful but what I found most interesting were the carvings at one particular area of the Shrine with animal statues. Toyama is great for unique shrines and temples that you can visit in half an hour or less. Makes the entire area worth a daytrip."

Shan Baker

"Using Local Tram to Grand Plaza Stop and walk about 3 minutes. Also near to Glass Museum of Toyama. Very neat and beautiful shrine. Visited during obon time in Covid 19. Many visitor with family during time pray for safety and family gatherness."
