Reviews Summary

Iriomote Island is celebrated for its breathtaking natural beauty, particularly its vast mangrove forests and pristine waters, offering unique adventure activities. However, visitors note challenges with limited English communication, transportation difficulties without a car, and a lack of diverse dining and accommodation options, especially during peak seasons.

"An island abundant in nature.
The population is also small, and the air is clear.
If you join a tour, you can also experience activities such as canoeing"

"I didn't expect much from this island, but it turns out I really like it! It's very beautiful and unique. As Japan's newest World Heritage site since July 2021, it's definitely worth a visit! I wish I could see the yama-neko. Renting a car is a must while you're here! Just be sure not to exceed 40 km/h because of the yama-neko. Be careful!"

Yuriko Kusumawati _

"Lots of choices in terms of water activities or exploring the forest on the Island. However, it is not easy to get around without a car but most car rental shops closed early in the afternoon. Difficult to get decent accommodations at reasonable price during summer season. Suitable for energetic travellers who want to do lots of exploration and sports. But probably not for those who just want a relaxed vocation."
