Taketomi island and Ishigaki have been a dream of mine to visit since my husband told me about it during his visit in 2017 The water really is that clear, the views really are that stunning and honestly it’s like another version of Japan that I couldn’t even have dreamed of! How to get to Ishigaki: there are flights from several major airports in Japan including Osaka, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Naha. Then t...

I just got back from 2 weeks in Japan and it was Taketomi island which really made an impression on me. Life there seems so peaceful, it’s so quiet, the ocean was so calm, the people so kind and the pace of life was slow. The concept of Ma is something that is referenced often in the museum here and I can see why. There is beauty in passing the time by noticing the little things, the stillness...

Reviews Summary

Haemida Beach is widely praised for its stunning natural beauty, pristine white sands, and crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling. Visitors love the peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere and the scenic forest walk to reach this hidden gem. Some reviewers noted that water clarity can vary, and snorkeling conditions might not always be ideal due to weather or sandy conditions.

"The beach was beautiful! Not a lot of people (we were less than 10), unfortunately the weather was bad and the sea was sandy (we couldn't see through). Even after a 100m swim we didn't see anything while snorkeling :("

"It's worth a visit to this beach. When I went it was quiet and peaceful with about 7 people on the beach in total. There are five ferries a day from Shirahama Port (at the end of road 215 on Iriomote, the only main road!).

The current timetable is attached but you can check the times by plotting the route on Google maps (we found that easier than trying to find a schedule in English online). We drove to the ferry port but there were buses as well. Once you arrive at Funauki port it's a short walk to the beach which is signposted.

The beach was beautiful, even on a slightly cloudy day like we had. The snorkelling was pretty good too - it stays quite shallow a long way out and we found the best snorkelling was a little further from the beach. We never went out of depth though. A lot of dead coral but we found a lot of living corals too and lots of fish."

"Beautiful beach. The coral reef was beautiful for snorkeling. Please refrain from using solar UV cream for their preservation 🙏
