Reviews Summary

Visitors generally praise the Takamatsu Symbol Tower for its stunning, free observation decks offering panoramic views of the city and Seto Inland Sea, especially at sunset and night. However, some have been disappointed by unexpected early closures, leading to frustration for those seeking night views.

"I think this is a office building but there are free observatories at level 8 and level 29. I saw many people in work attire leaving when I was going down from level 29 to level 8.

At the level 29 observatory, there is a cafe inside as well.

Level 8 is open air, so it might be quite chilly when the sun is setting.

The view is quite stunning during the sunset period, worth a visit if you got nothing else to do and just want to relax.

"The observation deck on 29/F is great and it is free! Worth to go if you are nearby. It js just next to Takamatsu JR Station"

Sevani Jennifer K.

"I was very disappointed with my visit. The sign clearly says the observation lounge is open until 23:15 (and another notice even mentions 22:30), but when I arrived before 20:30 it was already closed. There was no clear explanation or announcement about why it closed so early. I came here specifically for the night view, so it was really frustrating. I hope the management provides accurate information and keeps the promised opening hours in the future."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Symbol of Sunport Takamatsu

The Takamatsu Symbol Tower stands as a prominent landmark in the Sunport district, a modern development aimed at revitalizing the waterfront. Completed in 2003, it's the tallest building in Shikoku, reaching 150 meters with 30 floors above ground. Its sleek, slender design makes it a distinctive feature on the Takamatsu skyline, especially when illuminated at night. Instagram+1

The tower's name reflects its intended role as a symbol of the city's progress and its connection to the sea. It houses offices, but crucially, it offers public access to its observation decks, providing visitors with unparalleled views of the city and the surrounding Seto Inland Sea. Instagram+1

Beyond its architectural significance, the Symbol Tower is integrated into the vibrant Sunport area, which includes the Kagawa Prefectural Arena and various commercial facilities. This makes it a focal point for both residents and tourists, offering a blend of business, leisure, and cultural experiences. Instagram

Capturing the Views: Observation Decks

Takamatsu Symbol Tower features two main public observation areas: the 8th floor and the 29th floor. The 29th-floor observatory is a popular spot, offering expansive panoramic views. It's here that you can truly appreciate the scale of Takamatsu and the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea, with its numerous islands. Instagram+1

On the 29th floor, you'll find a cafe where you can enjoy a drink or a light snack while taking in the scenery. This provides a more relaxed way to experience the views, especially during sunset. Reddit The 8th floor is an open-air observation deck, which can be quite pleasant on a clear day but might be chilly during cooler seasons or when the sun sets. Reddit

Visitors often highlight the sunset views from the 29th floor as particularly stunning, painting the sky and sea in vibrant colors. At night, the tower itself and the surrounding port area are beautifully illuminated, offering a different, equally captivating perspective. Instagram+2

Art and Culture at the Tower

While primarily known for its views, the Takamatsu Symbol Tower has also been a venue for cultural events. The 'RETANGO STORY' exhibition, for instance, was held here, aiming to blend traditional culture with modern sensibility. Instagram+1

These events often coincide with larger art festivals in the region, such as the Setouchi Triennale, showcasing local and international artists. This highlights the tower's role not just as a viewpoint but also as a space that contributes to the artistic landscape of Takamatsu and the wider Setouchi region. TikTok

Such exhibitions and pop-up events offer visitors a chance to engage with art and culture in a unique setting, adding another layer to the experience of visiting the Symbol Tower beyond just the panoramic vistas. Instagram
