Don’t miss this hidden gem in Ueno!🥹 a truely local experience!! 📍 鳥とと 御徒町総本店 4 Chome-1-6 Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo 110-0005, Japan It’s one of the most authentic local restaurants I’ve visited on this trip- and prices are affordable. Unfortunately, the owner doesn’t speak English and the menu is only in Japanese, so you’ll need to translate it yourself #tokyo #ueno #tokyofood #foodie

Reviews Summary

Ginka DO is a highly popular stall on Nakamise Street, celebrated for its exceptionally creamy Hokkaido milk ice cream and tasty daifuku variations. While some find it a bit pricey or not the absolute pinnacle of daifuku authenticity, most agree it's a delicious and convenient treat worth trying while exploring Asakusa. The designated eating area is a practical addition for enjoying your purchases.

"A stall located smack dab in the middle of Nakamise Street after you pass through the southern Kaminari mon gate.

We saw tourists AND locals lining up for goodies here which is a good sign.

Fiancée was still riding a daifuku wave so she ordered a strawberry daifuku. Meanwhile, before getting to Japan my friends had pretty much hyped up ice cream to the moon.

"You've gotta try ice cream in Japan. It'll blow your mind. A lot of places use hokkaido milk. HOKKAIDO MILK MAN. I CAN'T EXPLAIN IT. YOU JUST HAVE TO TRY IT."

Literally the first thing I see at this stall. BOOM. A big sign with an ice cream proudly proclaiming they use real hokkaido milk. So of course, I had to finally test for scientific purposes.

I understand it now.

It IS hard to explain. The ice cream is .... creamier? more intensely flavoured? but whatever it is, it tasted way better than regular ice cream. I'm a firm believer and preacher of the hokkaido milk ice cream now.

Oh and my fiancée said she actually liked the daifuku here more than the ones at Ginza Akebono (which is actually a daifuku specialty shop).

P.S. there's a designated snack spot next to the stall so you can munch on your goodies before walking around."

"Bought the peach as well as the matcha strawberry daifuku to try. The matcha one tasted more natural, sweet but doesn't taste like syrup-y sweet. Whereas the peach one felt a bit too unnatural in terms of the taste, and possibly because of that, the strawberry tasted slightly sour as compared to the strawberry on the matcha one.

Not the best daifuku, but for a taste experience, would be a good option. Do note you have to eat near the stall, they have some space at the side alley for you to consume the daifukus you have bought."

"if you’re looking for authentic, high quality daifukus, ginkado is probably nOt the best place to come, but it’s still yummy enough and worth trying when you’re in the area. i got the chocolate one, which was really interesting because i’ve only had normal red bean/plain strawberry ones before, and i LOVEEE chocolate. my main complaint is the the daifuku mochi and the strawberry are both room temperature (not cold, so not really refreshing), but i guess they sacrificed the coolness of the treat to maintain its very sticky, gelatinous, and chewy texture. both the mochi and the chocolate filling inside weren’t too sweet, which was nice, as the strawberry provided a burst of natural sweetness. the strawberry also wasn’t as big as other places i’ve had before, but maybe i’ve been spoiled."
