"Very clean, quite, and local
Tattoo-friendly
They provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, facial cleanser, oil remover, body moisturszer for free
Towels: small ¥100, large ¥200
Blowdryer: 3mins ¥20

I really enjoyed the tubs and the overall experience. Every detail showed how much they care and I loved seeing the walls decorated with newspaper articles and paintings. The reception area was also lovely with fun drinks!

By the way, I loved the conditioner! Could you tell me the brand and product name? My hair feels so silky now."

Woori Bae

"I visited this sento more than one year ago with a friend it was already nice but it seems it has been renovated and it's super bright and new ! The staff was very nice, everything is clean. It feels really good to relax in the different baths. I tried the amazake one but couldn't smell it ... The products (shampoo, face soap, lotion etc) are really nice and convenient especially because this time we came at lunch time so it's tiring to carry all our products when we're not going home after the sento. Also I have lots of tattoo and it was ok for me (sento usually are ok).
Thank you for this relaxing time 😊"

The Art of Sento: Tradition Meets Modernity

Kosugiyu Sento is more than just a public bath; it's a cultural institution. The original Koenji location, founded in 1933, embodies the nostalgic charm of old Tokyo. Its newer Harajuku branch, nestled in the trendy Tokyu Plaza Harajuku, masterfully blends this heritage with contemporary design. This fusion is evident in the clean, bright interiors, the use of traditional Japanese bath elements like the iconic Mt. Fuji mural, and the modern amenities that cater to today's visitors. TikTokInstagram+1

The experience at Kosugiyu is designed to be both authentic and accessible. Visitors are encouraged to embrace the ritual of bathing, starting with a thorough wash before entering the communal baths. The staff's kindness and care are frequently highlighted, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both locals and international travelers. This thoughtful approach ensures that the essence of the sento—relaxation, community, and cleanliness—is preserved. InstagramReddit

Beyond the baths themselves, Kosugiyu offers a holistic experience. The reception area often features unique drinks and snacks, providing a perfect spot to unwind. They also sometimes host special events and collaborations, adding an exciting, temporary dimension to the usual visit. This commitment to evolving while staying true to its roots makes Kosugiyu a standout destination for experiencing Japanese culture. Instagram+1

Navigating the Sento Experience: Tips for First-Timers

For those new to the Japanese sento, Kosugiyu offers a relatively straightforward and welcoming introduction. The most crucial step is the pre-bath wash. You'll find individual washing stations with stools, showers, and all the necessary toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash). It's essential to clean yourself thoroughly here before stepping into any of the communal baths. This ensures hygiene for everyone. Reddit

When it comes to what to bring, the good news is that Kosugiyu provides many essentials. While you can rent towels (small for ¥100, large for ¥200), they offer complimentary shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even facial cleanser and moisturizer. This makes it convenient for travelers who might not have packed bulky items. If you have specific preferences, feel free to bring your own, but the provided amenities are generally well-regarded. Reddit

Remember that while Kosugiyu is known for being tattoo-friendly, which is a significant advantage, it's always good practice to be mindful of others. The atmosphere is generally quiet and respectful. Enjoy the variety of baths, perhaps trying a themed one if available, and don't hesitate to ask staff if you're unsure about any aspect of the etiquette. InstagramReddit
