Reviews Summary

Visitors find Amanuma Benten-ike Park to be a relaxing and peaceful green space, particularly appreciated for its revitalized pond and the presence of ducks. The park is also noted as a lovely spot for families, especially during seasonal events. While some reviews mention past construction, the current state is generally viewed positively, with the local history museum adding an educational layer to the visit.

"Once again Google Maps is nagging me in a way that is unclear what they're asking about. If it's the park I think they're asking about, then it was almost entirely under construction at that time. I'm giving it a provisional 3 stars anyway, because it was next to a nice river where I hoped to see a lot of ducks. however it was such a nice duck-friendly river that if there were many ducks around they were mostly very well hidden. Only saw one pair. Obviously, Google Maps should do a better job of making it clear what the heck they're asking about. I actually think a lot of the questions are more intended to find out about me then about the place they're ostensibly asking about. At this point, it's rather hard for me to be concerned about the accuracy of the Google Maps data."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Transformation of Benten-ike Pond

Benten-ike Pond, once a natural spring water pond known for its water lilies and fish until the 1960s, has undergone a significant transformation. The area was acquired by Mr. Tsutsumi of Seibu and later reclaimed. In 2004, Suginami City purchased the entire site, leading to its opening as Amanuma Benten Pond Park in April 2007. Reddit

Recent efforts have focused on revitalizing the pond's ecosystem. A filtration system was installed and the water circulation was improved, addressing previous concerns about murkiness. This has resulted in clearer water, making the pond a more attractive habitat for aquatic life, particularly the ducks that frequent its surface. Reddit

Visitors can now enjoy the serene beauty of the improved pond, appreciating the city's commitment to preserving and enhancing this natural space. The remnants of what appears to be a well outlet in front of the museum also hint at the pond's historical connection to natural springs. Reddit
