The atmosphere of the stairs is very different at Ogumotorigoe on the Kumano Kodo. After climbing the stairs, there were more stairs to climb, which felt like a challenge. Reviews Summary

The Ogumotori-goe is a challenging but incredibly rewarding hike, praised for its ancient atmosphere and stunning cedar forests. While many appreciate the sense of accomplishment, some find the continuous steep climbs and slippery terrain difficult. It's a true test of endurance for those seeking a profound pilgrimage experience.

"My husband and I are both over 60 years old. As long as we exercise regularly and are in good health, we can still complete the hike from Koguchi Bus Station to Nachiyama Station (7:30-16:30) with light packs. Please refer to the official information and map carefully and do your homework. Staying at Koguchi Nature House the night before is the easiest and most convenient option (staying at Shin-gu and taking the bus early in the morning is also okay). There are no meals along the way, so be sure to prepare breakfast and lunch (including fruit). Please prepare at least two bottles of mineral water per person (only Jizo Chaya has vending machines, but you need to be lucky if they are not broken or out of stock). Hiking boots, trekking poles, rain gear, basic medicines, flashlight (headlamp), and lightweight towels---please consider carefully."

"We headed to Oguchi from Nachi Taisha Shrine. It took just under two hours of climbing from the bus stop to Funami Chaya, where we had an early lunch before heading to Jizo Chaya. Along the way, we stopped off at Jizo Chaya to replenish our sweet tooth, admiring the moss-covered rocks and cobblestones along the stream. From here, it got tough, with a steep climb up to Echizen Pass and then an endless descent to Oguchi. We arrived, our feet stumbling over the moss-covered cobblestones. It was a course that took over six hours, but we enjoyed the variety of different experiences, and I highly recommend it.
This is not a beginner's course, so practice beforehand. It's recommended to wear hiking boots, as the cobblestones can be very slippery in places."
