What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Sada Chinka-bashi for its unique historical significance as a submersible bridge and the stunning natural beauty of the clear Shimanto River. The peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere is a major draw, offering a genuine escape. However, the remote location and challenging mountain roads require careful planning regarding transportation and potential road closures.
"Interesting part of history that can be experienced today. The bridges are still used by locals. Fun driving across all the submersible bridges along the Shimanto River."
Jennifer Nelson
"This is the second bridge from the mouth of the river among the sinking bridges that span the Shimanto River. It was once used in a Japanese TV drama, and many Japanese people have left reviews about it. However, due to its location deep in the mountains, the number of tourists is very low. You can really feel the presence of nature. If you plan to visit, it’s best to go by a small car or motorcycle. I deeply regretted visiting on a regular bicycle without any proper equipment, as there are many uphill climbs in the mountains, and I thought I might get stranded.
In the surrounding area, you can experience canoeing and paddleboarding. If you have time, you might want to give it a try. Since it's in the mountains, after rain, landslides may cause road closures. Be sure to check the road conditions before heading out."

"Not many visitors here as it is quite far away from the train station. We booked a taxi which took us to visit the water wheel and the Sada bridge , costing us 17,800 yen. Looking down at the river, we noticed the water is clear and we could see fishes swimming and also rocks . The water is flowing upstream. There are 47 submersible bridges across Shimanto river and these low water crossing bridges are a cultural heritage of the area. While there , we did see the boat that took visitors cruising on the river"
