What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Otaru Tenguyama Ropeway for its spectacular panoramic views, especially during sunset and at night, and the charming Squirrel Park. The ropeway ride itself is enjoyable. However, some find the food at the summit cafe to be average and overpriced, and long queues can be an issue during peak times.
"This place is listed as one of three major night views in Hokkaido unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to see the view at night. The views form up there are fantastic, there are places to sit and relax and take in the views, there are several viewing platforms and a little walk trail to see the view of the bridge below, if you are a bit adventurous there’s a zip line too, the cable car trip up and down is a great ride, I’m told that could ski here during winter but definitely not for the faint hearted as the slope is quite steep. If you’re looking for something a bit different there’s also a chipmunk park that you can enter free of charge, but it’ll cost you 300yen for a small container of seeds for the little critters who are so cute, I think the best time to see these little guys is first thing in the morning because in the afternoon they’ve probably had too much to eat and don’t really want to interact with you nevertheless it’s still fun to see them."

"Efficiently operated gondola offering spectacular views of the area. It was mid October so the Fall colors were turning adding to the beauty."

"Very beautiful. The day we went was a little foggy so the view came and went. We recommend driving or taking the bus because it’s a 15% incline for 30 minutes if you walk… The ropeway pass includes free entry into their squirrel park. There’s lots to do on top of Mt Tengu but note you will have to pay for the extra activities and they may not all be open when you go. The hike was very nice and gave good views of the cityscape below."
