"Great place to visit."

"We set sail from Kurahashi Island's marina early in the morning, beginning our dreamlike cruise to Kagoshima, letting ourselves be carried along by the swells. Over seven hours had already passed, and it was a truly beautiful, smooth sailing moment that made our hearts dance.
As we continued to gaze out at the surrounding islands in the distance, I began to relax, but then the coastline of Iwakuni and Suo-Oshima came into view ahead of us. As we headed port past Maejima, the Oshima Bridge, spanning the narrow strait between the mainland and Suo-Oshima, came into view.
Suddenly, the tide rose, and irregular waves and wind began to build. The wind began to hit the sails, which were already loaded with thrust, erratically, causing them to silver with a "bibibibi" sound."

Engineering Marvel: The Oshima Bridge
Originally a toll road, its transition to a free public thoroughfare in 1996 solidified its role as a vital and beloved gateway to Suo-Oshima, the third-largest island in the Seto Inland Sea. Its robust steel design has stood the test of time, making it a visually striking and enduring landmark.
Despite its strength, the bridge has faced challenges, such as the 2018 incident where a cargo ship collided with its girders, causing significant disruption to water and internet services on the island. This event highlighted the bridge's critical role as a lifeline for the island's residents.
Experiencing the Bridge: Beyond the Drive
From the walkway, you can observe the dynamic waters of the Ohata Seto Strait, particularly the fascinating whirlpools that form due to the powerful tides. On clear days, the vistas extend to distant islands, creating a picturesque scene perfect for photography. The bridge is also a popular spot for cyclists, offering a leisurely way to traverse the strait and enjoy the coastal scenery.
Whether you're driving, walking, or cycling, the Oshima Bridge provides a memorable experience. It's a place where engineering meets natural beauty, offering a unique perspective on the Seto Inland Sea and serving as an iconic symbol for Suo-Oshima.
