What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Takimi Koji is praised for its charming retro atmosphere, offering a nostalgic glimpse into 1950s Japan and a great spot for photos. Visitors appreciate the authentic Osaka cuisine and surprisingly affordable bento boxes. However, some find it a bit 'cheesy' and recommend visiting only if you have spare time after exploring the Umeda Sky Building, as some shops may be closed during off-peak hours.
"So nice place to visit we took lot of photos it has a very nice Japanese garden outside"

"Takimikoji, a “Showa-era theme” food street, is located at the basement of the futuristically designed Umeda Sky Building. Unless you visit the Umeda Sky observatory deck or stay in nearby hotels, then it maybe worthwhile for you to go and have a look. (I stayed at a nearby hotel so I spared one hour or so to take a look). Otherwise it is not worthwhile for you to make a special trip (especially if you take a taxi to get there).
Takimikoji is basically a replica of an old style Japanese food street. But it gives me an impression that it was a rather cheesy recreation of an old Japanese style food street. However it is still cool for one taking few unique photos for memories, or try out Kiji Okonomiyaki restaurant (the branch at Umeda station food street is constantly popular and has long lineups constantly) and Insae Sushi shop. I originally planned to try Kuji restaurant, well, it was closed after lunch time and will reopen at 5pm. Too bad, next time!
When I was there at around 230pm, I found that the food street was practically empty. No tourists or people (for a change)! Most shops were closed.. The ambiance was rather quiet and eerie; anyway it was great for me taking some photos peacefully.
Also a small Fushimi-Inari Taisha shrine was at the end of one alleyway. I prayed at the shrine and got a “good luck” stick; I was thrilled to get it cause people said it was rare and difficult to get a good luck stick at Senso-ji temple. (True enough I got a not good luck stick at Senso-ji temple so I tied it on the sideboard at the temple). Also I was delighted to see the two inari messengers (fox) standing guard at the shrine. They seem smiling contently though they may feel lonely staying at this rather empty place most of the time.
Small tip: there is an enchantingly beautiful garden with a huge charismatic flower wall (an outdoor art piece) near the Umeda Sky building where you can spend some tranquil time there.
Not recommended. Unless you have some time to spare after your Umeda Sky visit."
