What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Mount Tempozan a delightfully quirky and unique experience, celebrating its status as Japan's lowest mountain with humor and charm. While the 'climb' is brief, the novelty, photo opportunities, and scenic bay views make it a memorable stop, especially when combined with nearby attractions like the aquarium and Ferris wheel.
"Visiting Mount Tenpō (天保山) was such a fun and unique experience! Known as Japan’s lowest mountain, it’s more of a gentle hill than a typical peak — but that’s exactly what makes it special. The quirky charm of “climbing” one of Japan’s official mountains in just a few minutes is something you won’t forget.
At the summit, there’s a small stone marker and signboard proudly declaring the mountain’s height, and taking a photo there feels like a lighthearted achievement. The surrounding Tempozan Park and nearby attractions like the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan and Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel make the area lively and worth exploring.
It’s a short visit, but definitely a memorable one — especially if you enjoy offbeat landmarks. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just a curious traveler, Mount Tenpō is a must-see for its humor, simplicity, and charm."

"Flew all the way from the US to hike Japan’s most treacherous mountain, Mt Tenpo. Often, people come to hike Mt Fuji but they miss this even more dangerous climb. I used several days to scout out the base of the mountain and nearby terrain. Thankfully, I was able to make it to the summit on my first attempt, but it was not without difficulty. I had serious elevation sickness after the fact, but achieved a full recovery. I cannot recommend this hike enough as the views were extraordinary and rewarding. Grateful to have lived to tell the story🙏"
