Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently impressed by the unique and colorful architecture of the Maishima Sludge Center, designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. While the journey to the industrial area can be lengthy, the striking visual appeal and the insight into advanced waste management make it a worthwhile visit for many. Some note the limited amenities and lack of other attractions in the immediate vicinity.

"The Maishima Sludge Centre is indeed a spectacular building and is worth having a look if you have the time. The architecture of Friedensreich Hundertwasser is quite remarkable, especially when seeing it in person.
Although it is quite easy to get to by bus, I found the trip longer than I would have liked. When we got there, and had seen the sludge center and incinerator plant, there was not much else to see as it is situated in the industrial area. I did enjoy seeing the building but I would recommend bringing drinks and snacks."

Sibus Kry

"We are fans of Hundertwasser and this location is definitely worth it. Bus 81 drops you off right outside.
Two enormous complexes with the characteristic spheres, colours and towers with golden 'onions'."

Fam. Toebak

"July 2025: I was riding a rental bicycle towards the Expo site when a bizarre building caught my eye.
"The Expo site? Have we arrived yet?"
"Is that Universal Studios Japan...? No, that's just one street away, right?"
I stared at it as I passed by."
