Reviews Summary
Edion Arena Osaka is a dynamic venue, most renowned for hosting the thrilling Grand Sumo Tournament, though tickets are notoriously hard to secure. Beyond sumo, its multi-level arcade offers incredible value with all-you-can-play options, making it a hit for gamers. The arena also stages various other sporting events and competitions.
"Awesome venue, went to see sumo tournament. Had just regular seats not a booth but they were super comfy and had more leg room then a booth, wouldn't recommend booth for tall folks. They do actually have a restaurant within the arena, it serves curry and ramen of sorts with some Bento boxes available also. We were able to bring in food and drinks however so if you don't like the restaurant or want to save some Yen bring in your own food and drinks. The staff are all very helpful and speak great English so just ask them where to find your seat and you should have no problem at all. There is also a smoking section available on the balcony of the second floor for any smokers. Would highly recommend seeing the Sumo tournament, was one of the coolest experiences of my trip and is still Japan's national sport."

"We enjoyed the grand sumo tournament at this arena. 15m walk from Dontonbori district. Seating was good and the viewing of the matches was pretty good."

"I've been a sumo fan since around 2015, and it's always been a dream to fly to Japan and see a live basho. The arena is small but that ends up being a massive plus as every seat seemed like it'd be a great view, similar to how seeing a hockey game feels back stateside.
Highly recommended if you're in the area next year when the basho is back in Osaka.
Hope you'll see your fav rikishi snag a W, sadly I had to watch Hoshyru lose :("

🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
Sumo tickets are notoriously difficult to obtain and sell out extremely fast, often within hours of release. Your best bet is to be ready on the official ticket release date. If you miss out, consider reputable resale sites like Buysumotickets.com or GetYourGuide, though these will be more expensive.
Some Redditors also recommend the r/sumo subreddit's ticket megathread for potential leads.Ticket prices vary significantly based on seating. General admission (often called 'C' or 'D' seats) can be around 2,000 yen if you line up early, but these are limited. More desirable chair seats or box seats can range from several thousand to tens of thousands of yen. Resale prices are considerably higher.
Yes, Edion Arena hosts a variety of sporting events, including professional wrestling (like NJPW and STARDOM),
martial arts championships, and other athletic competitions. Check their official schedule for upcoming events. For major events like the Grand Sumo Tournament, it is highly unlikely you will be able to buy tickets on the day of the event as they sell out far in advance. For smaller events, day-of tickets might be available, but it's always best to check the arena's schedule and ticketing information beforehand.
Edion Arena features a multi-level entertainment complex, including an 'all-you-can-play' arcade. For a set fee (around $7 USD), you can enjoy unlimited access to a wide range of arcade games for a specified period, typically three hours.
🎫 🧭 Onsite Experience
Sumo seating can range from floor-level pads (requiring comfortable clothing and shoe removal) to chair seats and box seats. Redditors suggest that even the cheaper 'C' or 'D' seats can be fine, but chair seats are recommended for comfort during long matches.
Check the seating map for your specific ticket type. There's no strict dress code for sumo, but comfort is key, especially if you have floor seating where you'll be sitting on a pad. Casual, comfortable clothing is recommended. Avoid overly formal attire.
Policies on food and drinks can vary. For sumo, it's generally advisable to check the specific rules for the tournament. Some venues allow small snacks or drinks, while others may have restrictions. There are usually concessions available for purchase inside.
A full day of sumo can be quite long, with matches starting in the morning and concluding in the late afternoon or early evening. Many attendees choose to arrive for the later, more prestigious bouts, especially if they have reserved seating.
Beyond sumo, the arena complex often includes a large arcade with various games, from rhythm games to classics, and sometimes other sports facilities or event spaces. It's a multi-level entertainment hub.
📸 📸 Photography
Photography policies can vary depending on the event. For sumo tournaments, personal photography is often allowed, but flash photography and professional video recording are typically prohibited to avoid disturbing the wrestlers and other spectators. Always check the specific rules for the event you are attending.
For sumo, the best photos capture the intensity of the matches and the unique atmosphere. If attending other events, look for dynamic angles of the action. The arena itself might offer some interesting architectural shots, especially during non-event times.
For most events, standard personal cameras and smartphones are fine. However, large professional camera equipment, tripods, and selfie sticks may be restricted. It's always best to confirm the venue's policy regarding camera equipment before your visit.
You can expect to capture powerful images of the wrestlers in action, the unique rituals, the referees (gyoji), and the enthusiastic crowd. The atmosphere is very photogenic, especially during the climactic bouts.
If you have a camera with interchangeable lenses, a zoom lens can be beneficial for capturing close-ups of the wrestlers from your seat, especially if you don't have ringside seats. However, many great shots can be achieved with a standard lens or even a smartphone.
