"Blue Birds Roof Top Terrace.
Before attending I had heard a few mixed messages but during my visit we enjoyed our drink with a view but there are definitely improvements that can be made.
Located on top of the Miraiza Osaka-Jo, you can get the elevator near the main entrance of the building straight to the top.
Reception wasn’t as warm as others in Japan I’m not saying it was bad just not what we had experienced in other establishments during our trip.
When arriving we informed the host that we only wanted drinks and were directed to order at the bar before being allowed further onto the rooftop.
While waiting to be served we were informed several times that we wouldn’t be able to step further onto the rooftop without making a purchase, despite not moving from the same spot we were told to stand for drink orders we were constantly told the same thing which we felt was a bit overkill. We got the impression that a lot of people go up to take photos and just leave without purchasing from the bar and based from what we saw if this is your plan I don’t think you will be allowed to.
After ordering drinks we were allowed to choose any unoccupied seats, one thing to note however is this bar is very exposed to the elements. On this day in question it was a very hot day and not many umbrellas were present on the outdoor patio seats and the few we saw had been taken and weren’t available so if it’s warm chances are you will burn or if it’s raining you will get very wet.
It seemed that if you were getting food you get a more reserved lucrative seating area at the side with shade and comfortable chairs. The food looked like barbecue food that you cooked on a portable barbecue. We didn’t eat so would be unable to comment to much on this but people seemed to be enjoying the experience.
Something to note is that there are two sides to this bar, when we visited they informed us that the section nearest to the Osaka Castle offering the best view was closed and you are warned that there is no access, even if you have made a purchase, not even for a photo. There was no one on that section when we visited but saw that some times during busy periods at night it opens but it is mostly to be a hired venue for private events during the day so that’s the only way you would get to see this side.
Personally we found that the drinks were very reasonably priced and refreshing so much so we ended getting a couple but had to leave due to the intense heat.
It is also possibly the only place you can get a close up unobstructed view of Osaka Castle even from the further side of the bar and while it could do with more shade and a little more restraint on paying guests when they are already in a queue for drinks I would still recommend a visit her. Even if exposed to the elements on your day I still think it’s worth a quick drink in front of the famous Osaka Castle."

"Amazing place to dine! We came at 7pm for the 2 hour bbq and all you can drink.
All started well with our food coming out start away to start grilling. The drinks selection was good to with beers, wine and cocktails to choose from. The platter had 4 types of beef, chicken and veggies plus rice. We did end up ordering extra rice and potatoes as it wasn’t enough. But the price for the quantity of meat and the view seems good, plus the all you can drink makes it worth it.
We sat on the ‘non castle view’ side but we actually could see it, so not worth paying for the castle view area for an extra ¥2000. Plus it was quieter on the side we were on.
The bad part of our experience came at the end. Our 2 hours were up and the restaurant had 30 mins to closing. We had half a drink left to finish and were sat there chatting. We didn’t want any more drinks and weren’t planning on getting anymore from the free bar. However, a staff member came and told us quite aggressively ‘you get out’ which was very sad. We had taken our wrist bands off for the all you can drink plus they had shut the bar for the night so it’s not like could he anymore anyway. We were just finishing our drinks. That really left a sour taste. Eventually she agreed we could finish our drink as long as we ‘promise to not get anymore and leave at closing time’ which was an odd thing to do.
Anyway, nice food, great experience but service and staffs were lacking.
Plus toilets weren’t clean."

"Such a spectacular evening. We arrived (4 adults, 6 kids) around 6pm and got the 2 hour all you can drink and then grilling on the castle side. Remarkable views and the best service we’ve had in Japan (and we’ve had some great service!!). The views of the city were truly unparalleled and the staff were all so helpful and kind with all of our children. The food was delicious and it was fun grilling with the epic views of the castle. Loved watching the sky change from sunset to evening and seeing the skyline sparkle. No notes!"

The Blue Birds Rooftop Experience: Beyond the View
Many visitors opt for the all-you-can-drink package, which often comes with the BBQ set. This can be a great way to enjoy a variety of beverages while soaking in the atmosphere. However, it's important to note that the terrace is an open-air venue, meaning you'll be exposed to the elements. Reviews highlight the potential for intense sun and heat, so coming prepared with sun protection is crucial.
Despite some mixed reviews regarding service and seating arrangements, the overall vibe is often described as lively and fun, with people enjoying the unique combination of food, drinks, and a spectacular view. It's a place where you can create memorable moments, especially during sunset or special events like fireworks displays.
Navigating Reservations and Seating
When booking, consider requesting a table in the area with the best castle views. However, be aware that some reviews suggest that the most desirable seating, often with shade, is prioritized for those ordering the BBQ sets, while those opting for drinks only might be seated in less optimal locations. It's also worth noting that some guests have found the 'non-castle view' side to still offer decent views and be quieter.
Be prepared for the possibility that even with a reservation, access to the absolute best vantage points might be restricted. Some visitors have reported being told they couldn't access certain areas for photos even after making purchases. Therefore, managing expectations and understanding the seating policies is key to a smooth experience.
Special Events and Seasonal Offerings
These events often provide a more immersive experience, allowing visitors to witness iconic Osaka celebrations from a prime vantage point. The combination of the castle's grandeur, the vibrant fireworks, and the rooftop ambiance creates a truly memorable occasion.
While these special events are highlights, it's always a good idea to check the terrace's official website or social media for information on upcoming events, seasonal menus, or any special promotions they might be offering. This can help you plan your visit to coincide with unique experiences.
