What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tiger Beach is overwhelmingly praised for its incredible tiger shark diving experiences and healthy, vibrant reefs. Visitors consistently highlight the thrill of encountering these apex predators and the professionalism of the dive operators. Some minor drawbacks include the need for advance booking and the fact that it's a dive site, not a traditional beach with amenities.
"(+) Beautiful stretch of beach / coastline.
(+) Easy access from sidewalk.
(+) Unattended in winter (off season), so perfect place for swimming or sunbathing if you're staying at a nearby resort that has the No Swimming winter rule.
(+) Free of charge.
(+) Seems to be part of Okinawa Coast Quasi-National Park
(-) NO signs indicating that it's Tiger Beach.
(-) Unclear how much of it is public and what "belongs" to Hotel Monterey
(-) No bathrooms or any facilities (showers, changing rooms, etc.)"

"Of course I prefer the tiger Beach of old. My family and I spent many years on this beach over the last thirty something years. We use to have a week-long party every fourth of July for many years before they tore down the original Resort. This was the last local Resort on Okinawa. Now there are no more local resorts, they're all for the tourist with no local rates!"

"Mainly targetted at tourists, with activities and facilities that you need to pay for. Has life guard at designated swimming areas. Has basic shower facilties though."

Planning Your Tiger Beach Expedition
When selecting a tour, consider the duration of the trip, the type of diving offered (e.g., open water dives, shark feeding dives), and the operator's safety record. Many tours are full-day excursions, allowing ample time for multiple dives and interactions. It's also wise to check reviews and testimonials to gauge the quality of the experience and the professionalism of the crew. Some operators even offer specialized trips, such as women's retreats, focusing on a unique community aspect of the dive.
Beyond the dive itself, remember to pack appropriately. Essentials include swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and a waterproof bag for your belongings. While the dive operators provide the diving gear, bringing your own mask or personal comfort items can enhance your experience. The journey to Tiger Beach is an adventure in itself, offering stunning ocean views and the anticipation of an incredible encounter with nature's most powerful marine predators.
