What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sogen-ji Temple is praised for its profound tranquility and the opportunity to experience authentic Zen practice under a renowned master. Visitors appreciate the serene gardens and peaceful atmosphere, making it a restorative escape. However, some find the temple's structured approach and limited access for casual visitors disappointing, preferring a more open spiritual environment.
"Most beautiful temple I have ever seen we got a tour from a local lady that we asked for directions. The lake is a little dirty but is full of beautiful koi fish. There are wild boar behind it in the Forrest and u can even hear them occasionally"

"You can only participate in meditations on Sundays. It’s not a place of open spirituality but rather rigid and inflexible. If it’s a meditation center, one should be able to join meditations freely, without fixed schedules or specific days. Therefore, I don’t recommend it, since spirituality should be something more open, free, and fluid—not what they propose. Also, if you just want to take a walk in the park, you wouldn’t go to a Zen temple but rather to engage in group practices. I don’t recommend it. Also, the people who are focused on taking photos or promoting photography in that place—or just taking selfies—seem completely distracted and out of place to me."

"“A disappointing experience. It is a closed place where no one from the outside is welcome. Instead of being a place that invites you to meditate in the present moment, it is limited to just one day a week. Moreover, it seems that the people who visit are only interested in the superficial beauty of nature, rather than engaging in true meditation as a temple of this kind should inspire.”"
