What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the exceptionally clear, pristine waters and abundant coral reefs at Minamizaki Beach, making it a top spot for snorkeling. The challenging but rewarding hike through the forest adds to its secluded charm. While the pebble shore is unique, it's the underwater world that truly captivates.
"I visited this place in July 2019 for snorkeling. It takes about an hour to walk along the promenade full of caterpillars. If you come all the way here and leave without seeing the ocean, you will regret it for the rest of your life. The water here is so clear and there are so many corals. I went to almost all the beach entry points on Chichijima and Hahajima, but this place has the best ocean by far. I think it's also because there are hardly any people here, so it's not disturbed. Even in bad weather like the one in the photo, the water was a different world and the water was not murky. I think it was due to the tide, but the transparency in the center was outstanding. By the way, there were no sharks."

"This is the southernmost beach on Hahajima that is reachable by the general public on foot. It is not a sandy beach but a beach of pebbles. I picked up a pebble and found that it was a beautiful white and red colour, so it might be made from fragments of coral.
It is at the end of one of the footpaths that continues from the southernmost point of the prefectural road, and there is a rest area with a gazebo and tables just before the beach."

"This is Minamizaki Coast, located on the way to Kofuji.
It's a rocky coast, not a sandy beach.
It's a beautiful bay when viewed from Kofuji!"

However, the rocky terrain means it's not a typical 'build sandcastles' beach. Parents should be extra vigilant with children around the water due to the rocky entry and potential for waves. Consider this destination for families with older, more adventurous children who can handle the hike and appreciate the natural environment.
