The road to the tempels became popular merchant streets, first selling offerings and later other things. Some of the roads got beautiful stone bridges over the Nakashima river. The spectacles bridge is the most famous (because the reflection of the arches give it the appearance of 🤓). To this day there is a popular shopping street in this area. #nagasaki #japan #TheLarsPost

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the historic Spectacles Bridge for its unique 'spectacles' reflection and the charming atmosphere along the Nakashima River. Many enjoy the hunt for the hidden 'heart stone' and the peaceful strolls. Some find the 'spectacles' illusion less obvious than expected, but appreciate the overall scenic beauty and historical significance.

"This stone bridge has a history spanning over 400 years. Although it was repaired in 1983 due to flood damage, it was reconstructed to keep its original arch shape. About 80% of the damaged stones were recovered and reused, showing the effort to preserve its original appearance as much as possible.
It’s said there may even be a “heart stone” hidden in the embankment. The cloudy, hot, and humid weather actually made our stroll near the bridge feel pleasant. You can walk down the path along the river to enjoy the bridge from a different angle. It must be especially beautiful to visit during the bloom of shidarezakura, as the pathway is lined with these graceful cherry trees."

"Great bridge for viewing but does not look like what its name suggests. Called Megane-Bridge which is supposed to look like spectacles, but I don't see it. It is just a regular bridge. The waterway is nice though, and there are plenty of koi. Be sure to look for the heart shaped rock."

ItzMe

"A nice little scenic side quest when visiting Nagasaki. The bridge does look a bit like a pair of spectacles when you see the reflection. For the brave there are stone steps leading across the water so you can take a picture from the water level. When down at this spot you may notice one of the Heart Stones in the canal wall. All is all a decent photo stop"
