Ryutaku-ji Temple

"This temple belongs to the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect and was founded in September 1761 by Zen master Hakuin. The very large grounds are well-maintained. It is a Zen dojo. Yamaoka Tesshu also studied Zen here. There are many buildings in the very large temple complex, and there are many things to see, such as sculptures and Chohachi plaster trowel paintings. Please note that there are some areas that are off-limits. When I visited, there was no one there and the quiet space had a dignified atmosphere. There is a high stone wall at the entrance, which gives an idea of ​​the temple's large scale."

On March 25, 1945, Yotsumoto Yoshitaka introduced Suzuki Kantaro, who was then President of the Privy Council, to Yamamoto Genpo Roshi, and despite it being their first meeting, Genpo Roshi recommended that Suzuki become Prime Minister.

Just 10 days later, on April 5, 1945, Suzuki Kantaro received the imperial command to form a cabinet.

Yotsumoto was surprised that Roshi's prophecy had come true, but in fact, from the fall of 1944 to the spring of 1945, Genpo Roshi had frequently met with Empress Teimei, who was taking refuge at the Numazu Imperial Villa. Tanaka Seigen, who served as her secretary, alludes to this in his autobiography, but I once heard the story from someone else.

He apparently traveled by train from Mishima to Numazu, passed Peach Village on Mt. Kanuki, waited for low tide, tucked up the bottom of his robes, and walked along the shore of Numazu Bay toward the Imperial Villa.

The above incident is just a story I've heard; there are no primary or secondary sources.

When Suzuki Kantaro declined, citing his continued hearing loss, Emperor Showa replied, "Go ahead, it doesn't matter if you can't hear," and from this point on, the Suzuki Cabinet began moving toward ending the war.

Just before the Imperial Conference, Master Yamamoto Genpo sent a letter to Prime Minister Suzuki quoting the words of Bodhidharma, saying, "The important times are coming, so endure the unbearable, bear the unbearable, and take care of your health."

And so was issued the Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the War.
