What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hirizo Beach is celebrated for its stunningly clear waters and abundant marine life, offering an exceptional snorkeling experience comparable to tropical destinations. However, visitors must be prepared for significant crowds and the need for extremely early arrival to secure parking and beach space, as well as the rocky terrain requiring water shoes.
"Probably the best spot for snorkeling around Kanto area. However, you need to get to the port really early like 5am to get a parking lot and put your stuff to secure your spot in a line for a boat.
Also, there will be so many people in a small area. A sand area is very limited. Other space is stones and rocks. You must take your chairs and/or air mat.
Japanese people like to stay in tents so they’ll block your view."

"Superb...
Excellent snorkling site outside Okinawa.
During peak season this tiny beach will be horrible crowded but at the end of season (September) this tiny beach almost like private beach.
Rocky beach has Crystal visibility, plenty various of coral fishes.
Marine boot is mandatory, except rock and other sharp objects the beach also has many poisonous Stone fish.
Absolutely recommend"

"The snorkeling area is nice as it's an enclosed area surrounded mostly by rocks. You need to get quite a bit out to be deep enough to swim. You will definitely need some shoes for the water as there's sea urchins and sharp rocks that I would not suggest walking barefoot on. Once you're further out though, the water and marine life is really nice.
Biggest negative is how crowded it is and having to arrive super early in the morning for parking. Most cars started waiting as early as 3am to get a parking spot. Then there's a lot of waiting until the boats start running at 8am with a huge queue of people waiting to board it. After arriving at the beach, everyone sets up their massive tents so it's a bit of a pain to walk and get around the rocks."

The Unique Access to Hirizo Beach
This boat-only access means that planning is key. Visitors must arrive at Nakagi Port very early, especially on weekends, to secure parking and a place in the boat queue. The journey itself is brief, offering a scenic introduction to the dramatic coastline before arriving at the secluded cove.
While the boat ride adds an element of adventure, it also means that amenities are scarce on the beach itself. Visitors are advised to come prepared with all necessities, as there are no shops or extensive facilities directly on Hirizo Beach. This focus on natural preservation is part of what makes the experience so special.
Snorkeling Paradise: What to Expect
The snorkeling experience is enhanced by the beach's unique geography. It's an enclosed cove surrounded by volcanic rocks, creating a natural aquarium. While the shallows might be limited, venturing a bit further out reveals deeper areas perfect for swimming and observing the vibrant coral and fish.
Safety is paramount due to the rocky terrain and potential presence of sea urchins and poisonous stonefish. Wearing sturdy water shoes is non-negotiable. Lifeguards are typically present, and it's important to heed their instructions regarding safe swimming zones.
Navigating the Rocky Terrain and Crowds
During the peak summer season, Hirizo Beach can become extremely crowded. The limited sandy area and the popularity of setting up tents can make navigation challenging. Many visitors recommend arriving exceptionally early to secure a good spot and avoid the most intense crowds.
To make the most of your visit, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons, like mid-September, or on weekdays if possible. This can offer a more relaxed experience with fewer people, allowing you to better appreciate the natural beauty of the beach and its surroundings.
