What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jonen-dake is celebrated for its incredibly rewarding summit views of the Northern Alps, offering a profound sense of accomplishment. Climbers appreciate the challenging, rocky terrain as part of the adventure, with Jonen Hut providing a welcome respite. However, the demanding nature of the climb and the potential for difficult scree descents are significant challenges.
"I climbed from Ichinosawa in early November, just as autumn was coming to an end in the mountains. I spent the night at Jonen Hut and headed to the summit the next morning. It took about an hour to climb from the hut and about 45 minutes to descend over scree to reach the narrow summit. Fortunately, the weather had cleared from the previous day's rain, allowing me to see the peaks of the Northern Alps."

"August 19, 2025
Dake Jonen is the most challenging part of the hike, starting from the ridgeline leading to Mount Tsurugidake and finally to Mount Chogatake.
Whether viewed from the Hotaka mountain range or Matsumoto city, its beautiful, triangular peaks fascinate me, making me want to reach the summit someday.
When I actually reached the summit, I was truly overwhelmed with emotion!
The panoramic view of the famous Northern Alps and Matsumoto city was so overwhelming I couldn't help but exclaim.
Sharing my joy with the other climbers at the summit, it was a physically exhausting but emotionally fulfilling mountain trip."

"For my fifth solo beginner hike, I attempted the descent from Panorama Ginza and Nakabusa Onsen to Kamikochi. Jonen-dake was the main attraction on Day 2, but it was good to have some advance information because the peak visible from Jonen-goya was a false peak.
The mountain path was rocky, but having experienced the descent to Chogatake, I found the climb from Jonen-goya to be easier. Approaching from Chogatake felt like climbing large rocks on all fours, which can be scary.
The summit is small, but I thought it was a mountain with a great sense of accomplishment. I think it's the most difficult part of Panorama Ginza. It's not that difficult if you think of it as a solo hike, but the journey up and down was quite tough, so I thought it would be best to climb slowly without using your feet.
Even as a beginner, I'm familiar with this mountain, and after climbing it, I think I understand why. It was the rockiest mountain I've ever experienced."
