Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Shinsen-numa Marsh for its serene beauty and accessible boardwalks, especially during the vibrant autumn season. While the natural setting is a major draw, some note the boardwalks can be uneven and advise preparing for unpredictable mountain weather.
"It’s about a 30-minute walk from the Shinsen-numa Marsh Café to the lake. The trail is pleasant and easy to follow, with a well-maintained wooden path. The air is fresh, and the peaceful, serene surroundings make for a truly enjoyable walk."

"Went on a wet and cold morning in Sept 2024. It was a misty and winding drive up the mountains before we arrived at the carpark.
Unfortunately we forgot our poncho and only had 1 umbrella. So we rented one at the cafe by the carpark (¥200 + ¥300 refundable deposit if you return it in good condition).
The way in was opposite the carpark. You walk on narrow boardwalk through low trees. Some parts of the boardwalk has some holes or the planks are uneven, so tread carefully. And in wet weather, this is not exactly the ideal landscape to plough through with umbrellas, so it would be better to be prepared with ponchos.
At one point, 2 options were presented. An easier new boardwalk at 735m (which we took) or steps at a shorter distance of 635m.
The boardwalk subsequently turned into an open path which was then easier to proceed.
The whole walk in is 1km one way. The final spot is peaceful and beautiful. Though we would have wished for sunnier weathers, the rain and fog lent a mysterious air to the quiet marshland as well."
