"Ninenzaka is an absolutely magical place—stepping onto this narrow, stone-paved street feels like walking back in time. Lined with beautifully preserved traditional wooden buildings, tea houses, and small shops, it’s one of the most iconic spots in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district.
We visited early in the day when the streets were still quiet, which made for a peaceful experience, but we didn’t get to see any geisha as some people do later in the day. Still, the atmosphere was incredible, with every turn offering a new photo opportunity.
This is definitely the place to rent a kimono—the historic backdrop makes for stunning traditional photos, and you’ll see plenty of people dressed up and even accompanied by professional photographers. Whether you’re looking for a cultural experience, souvenir shopping, or simply a scenic stroll, Ninenzaka delivers.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto—don’t miss it!"
