What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Kuroyon Onsen, calling it a 'new favorite place in all of Japan' for its serene atmosphere, stunning natural beauty, and unique features like swimsuit-friendly bathing. The journey via the Kurobe Gorge Railway and the scenic hike are also highly praised, though the ruggedness of the path is noted.
"This is my new favourite place in all of Japan. When I went there was no one there but me. It's so serene, with waterfalls all around, and the sound of the river raging nearby.
For people who are shy or uncomfortable with nakedness, this onsen allows bathing suits. There's a small shelter for men and another for women to change in and leave your clothes; I brought my own towel, unsure if they have a towel rental service. When I went it was 900 yen to enter, and well worth it in my opinion. I would definitely come back here again.
To get here you have to take to Kurobe Gorge train one stop to Kuronagi (about 25 min or so), which has some amazing mountain views that are worth paying for anyway. Then you walk 20 min along the mountain from the station on a well marked path. You don't need to be really fit, but it is not accessible.
Normally photos aren't allowed, but since I was completely alone I took some to show just how beautiful it is here."
