That one time I was in 🇯🇵 and went to the now famous Daikoku Futo back in 2017! On the way saw a Japanese biker gang, the Rainbow Bridge and one of Japans largest Ferris Wheels! Once we got to the famous rest area, saw sooo many cars I have never seen in person before! Can’t thank Nick and Marc from Mita Motorsports for making this bucket list item come true! #daikokufuto #japan #jdm #nsx

Reviews Summary

Visitors fondly remember the Palette Town Ferris Wheel for its breathtaking panoramic views of Tokyo and its dazzling neon lights at night. The choice between colored and transparent cabins offered a personalized experience, though the latter often involved longer waits. While the attraction is now closed, its memory as an iconic Odaiba landmark persists.

"We loved it. First we decided to go on a see through gondola but changed the idea due to long queue for it and one in our group had fear of heights. After seen the night life of colourful city odaiba, I think even he forgot it😂
The view was breathtaking."

Menaka Ariyarathne

"We had visited the Mega Web as a part of Tokyo Motor Show 2019 and since we had some spare time, two of us decided to check out the giant Ferris wheel situated at Odaiba right next to the Mega Web. When it was opened to the public back in the year 1999, it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel at 115 m, but not anymore.

A ride costs about 1,000 Yen and takes 16 minutes. The slow ride gives you a breathtaking view of central Tokyo and even Mount Fuji on a clear bright day! One can hop into a coloured cabin (with glass only at the center for viewing) or a complete clear-glass cabin. However, the clear glass one has a waiting time of about 20 minutes. We opted for a coloured unit. The Ferris wheel also lights up at dusk with some 1,20,000 neon tubes and displays several 3D patterns. Do not miss this ride if you visit Tokyo. Cheers!"

"It reminded me of the London Eye. We get to choose the cabin (colored or the transparent) and I chose the colored cabin. But I so wish I could have chosen the transparent cabin as It would have been a breathtaking view from it. The view from up there was splendid and I love Tokyo more post this visit."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Iconic Daikanransha: A Look Back

The Palette Town Ferris Wheel, or Daikanransha, was a prominent landmark in Odaiba, Tokyo. Standing at 115 meters tall upon its opening in 1999, it was once the world's tallest Ferris wheel. Its distinctive neon lighting, comprising over 120,000 tubes, transformed it into a dazzling spectacle after dark, displaying various 3D patterns and colors. TikTok+1

Travelers often compared the experience to the London Eye, appreciating the 16-minute ride that offered breathtaking panoramic views. The choice between standard colored cabins and fully transparent 'see-through' cabins added an element of personalization to the experience. While the transparent cabins provided a more immersive thrill, they often came with longer wait times. Reddit

Despite its closure in August 2022, the Daikanransha remains a fondly remembered attraction, symbolizing the vibrant entertainment landscape of Odaiba. Its memory persists through the countless photos and videos shared by visitors who experienced its unique charm. TikTok

Experiencing the Views: Cabins and Perspectives

The Daikanransha offered two main types of cabins, each providing a distinct way to experience the Odaiba skyline. The standard colored cabins were a popular choice, offering comfortable seating and good views through their windows. These were generally quicker to board, making them ideal for those wanting to maximize their time exploring Odaiba. Reddit

For the more adventurous, the transparent cabins provided an unparalleled, almost surreal, experience. With glass encompassing the entire cabin, including the floor, riders felt as though they were floating above the city. This option was particularly favored by those seeking an adrenaline rush and the most unobstructed photographic opportunities. However, the allure of these clear cabins often meant a significant wait, sometimes up to 20 minutes, as noted by visitors. Reddit

Regardless of the cabin choice, the 16-minute rotation was designed to showcase the sprawling metropolis. On clear days, the distant silhouette of Mount Fuji was a coveted sight, adding another layer of magic to the journey. The transition from daylight to dusk offered a dual perspective: the bustling city by day and the glittering urban tapestry by night. Reddit
