Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Tanema-ji Temple for its spiritual significance, particularly its role as a sanctuary for prayers for safe childbirth. The temple's connection to the Shikoku Pilgrimage and the provision of pilgrim lodging are also highly appreciated. Some note the unique Jizo statues and the historical legend of the 'sowing seeds'.

"This temple is called the “Temple of Sowing Seeds” and is named such as Koubou Daishi was said to have planted five different kinds of seeds at the temple at the time of its establishment. Agriculture was also very close to the Daishi’s heart, as was careful irrigation for crops as well. Koubou Daishi is credited with saving countless lives through thoughtful engineering and creating water reservoirs that protects crops through the blistering summers.

This temple is particularly important for pregnant women. Women come here to pray for safe and easy childbirth. Water ladles are brought as a symbol of pregnancy and brought by pregnant women to the temple priest to pray over while they carry their children to term."

"I used the tsuyado of this temple while I was walking the Shikoku Henro pilgrimage. It was a bit separated from the temple. It was a small room with tatamis. It had some futons and electricity, and it even had a shower with hot water! This is more of what you could ask for a tsuyado, I had a very nice rest and was ready for walking the next day. Thanks a lot!"
