What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Futako Bridge offers scenic views of the Tama River and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. However, visitors frequently note the narrow, shared sidewalks that can become congested with cyclists, leading to a less than ideal walking experience for some. Despite the crowding, its convenient location makes it a popular crossing point.
"Love walking to the bridge. Helps me clear my head."

"The view is great. The sidewalks are a little narrow. There are a lot of bicycles. Mt. Fuji is clearly visible!"

"A bridge close to Futako Tamagawa station.
It gets crowded with people from the crowded area of Futako Tamagawa and the cycling path is nearby, so it's packed with sports bikes.
But even so!
The sidewalk is incredibly narrow,
so much so that in some places people and bicycles can't even pass each other!
And yet people and bicycles come from the other direction!
There's also a lot of people there for barbecues and drunk people, making it inconvenient to walk around.
The space once you've crossed is also narrow.
If possible, it's a bridge I never want to cross again as it's so dangerous.
I wonder what's wrong with that!"

Understanding the Congestion
To mitigate the congestion, visitors are strongly advised to be aware of their surroundings and to consider dismounting their bicycles before crossing. The presence of sports bikes and a high volume of traffic means that vigilance is key. While the bridge offers a direct route and scenic views, the shared-use nature of its limited space is a recurring theme in visitor feedback.
Despite the challenges, the bridge remains a popular spot for its accessibility and the potential for clear views of Mount Fuji on good weather days. The key to a more enjoyable experience lies in managing expectations regarding space and timing your visit to avoid peak hours.
The Allure of Mount Fuji Views
Photographers and casual visitors alike often seek out this vantage point. The best opportunities to spot Mount Fuji are typically during the cooler months when the air is clearer, and visibility is generally higher. Early mornings and late afternoons, especially during the 'golden hour,' can provide stunning light that enhances the view of the mountain and the surrounding scenery.
While the bridge itself is the viewing platform, the surrounding areas along the Tama River also offer complementary perspectives. However, the direct line of sight from Futako Bridge, combined with its accessibility, makes it a prime location for those hoping to catch a glimpse of this national treasure.
