Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Yumeji-kan Museum for its insightful exhibitions on the Taisho-era artist Yumeji Takehisa, particularly his focus on women and his lesser-known novels. The incredibly low admission fee and the charming setting of Yuwaku Onsen are significant draws. However, the museum's remote location and infrequent bus service can pose accessibility challenges for some.
"Yumeji Takehisa is famous for his unique paintings of beautiful women. Since I have stayed in Yuwaku Onsen, Yumejikan is located here.
It's interesting because it has a chronology that focuses on many of the women's journeys."

"I stopped by on the way to the bus stop from the public bath.
The building and the approach to the entrance are beautiful and lovely.
The permanent exhibition on the first floor focuses on three women who were involved with Yumeji, highlighting his life and work. Since there are many female Yumeji fans, I felt that it was a good way to display his work and to attract interest and sympathy.
The special exhibition on the second floor is "Yumeji's Illustrated Newspaper Novel: Like the Wind".
As I am not particularly a Yumeji fan, I had a fixed image of Yumeji = a person who draws beautiful women, illustrations, and designs, so I was a little surprised to learn that he wrote novels (sorry for my lack of knowledge).
As with paintings, writing is a more direct way of highlighting a person's character, as it is made up of words.
I felt like I could get a glimpse of the worldview and view of women that the creator Yumeji had through his novels.
For such a tasteful and fulfilling exhibition, the admission fee of 310 yen is too good to be true.
I hope more people visit."

"This is a memorial museum that displays the works and belongings of Takehisa Yumeji, a painter of the Taisho era romance. The explanations of the exhibits are easy to understand, and considering the admission fee, I think it is a very good memorial museum.
The permanent exhibition is centered on three women related to Takehisa Yumeji, and I felt that there were many exhibits related to Kasai Hikono, who had a deep connection with Yuwaku. Valuable belongings donated by the family of Yumeji's second son are also on display, so it is worth seeing for those who like Yumeji. The special exhibitions seem to be changed several times a year.
There is also a theater where you can watch a total of about 45 minutes of videos. The videos were a little old, but they were all easy to understand and I was interested to see valuable interviews.
The museum shop sells original goods, including goods that you won't see at other Takehisa Yumeji museums. There is a reprint of chiyogami designed by Yumeji, which is surprisingly not common, so it was very good. The catalog is only for the entire museum, but it is thick and comprehensive.
The downside is that it is difficult to access, so if you are taking the bus, it is better to check the timetable in advance.
Photography is not allowed. The shop accepted credit cards."
