"This small art museum is located within Kakegawa Castle. Despite its small size, it always features interesting exhibits, and you can sense the hard work that goes into creating them. This time, I went to see Yukino Omura's "The World of Sticker Art." These are the round stickers you receive when you turn in your work in elementary school—the ones you stick on the front of your name—and they're readily available at 100-yen stores. Her works were quite fascinating. Looking at a section, it looks like nothing more than a sticker, but the whole piece forms a beautiful picture. Photography was allowed, so I'll post a representative piece. Unlike a jigsaw puzzle, the artist seems to create the piece while keeping an image of the finished product in mind, but even so, it's difficult to create without a clear picture of the finished product. Apparently, she started this as her university graduation project, and it was definitely worth a visit. The curators told me that they start each morning by checking to make sure the stickers haven't come off, and I could see why, standing in front of the piece."
