Visitors find Tojin Baka a poignant and historically significant site, particularly appreciating the heartfelt memorial to U.S. aviators. While the tomb's art is noted for its vivid colors and Chinese influence, the English plaque is highlighted as the most impactful element. Some visitors mention that signage is primarily in Japanese and that the site may be undergoing reconstruction.
"The memorial to three U.S. Naval aviators is located here. The plaque describes their capture and execution by Japanese troops during WW2. Two of the men were beheaded and the third was tortured and used for bayonet practice, all in violation of international human rights law and the law of war. The site is a poignant reminder of the horror of war and the lessons we can learn from the sins of previous generations."

"Very Chinese influenced tomb with very detailed art. The signs are in Japanese.
There are other movements on the site. Most are in Japanese only.
The one with the tribute to 3 Americans who died is in English. It was really heartfelt to read about the history. You realize how far the WWII was felt on all the islands and why the Japanese strove for world peace.
Free. Parking on the side. Has bathrooms on site."

"Not too many people know about this piece of history. It was refreshing to see this and learn about it. Glad I stopped by here. I'm going to tell more people about this so hopefully it never gets forgotten and more people will stop by here when they visit Ishigaki."
