What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular panoramic views from the summit, especially the sight of Inuyama Castle. The autumn foliage is a major draw, transforming the landscape into a beautiful spectacle. While the hike is generally easy and well-maintained, some caution that the rocky and pebbly terrain requires sturdy footwear to avoid slips.
"First, we went to the main hall of Tsugukannon (Jakkoin).
To reach the summit, we started climbing from behind the main hall.
The Tokai Nature Trail information board said that it was 0.8 km and 30 minutes to the triangulation point.
The hiking trail has log stairs and rocky areas, but it is well maintained. The climb continues to the summit, but there is also a part where you walk along the ridge. After climbing for a while, there is a torii gate and "Ontake Shrine".
The final climb to the summit is a steep log staircase, and you will arrive at the summit square at an altitude of 273.11 m. There are benches and a gazebo at the summit, so you can take a break while enjoying the view.
The view from here is wonderful, with "Monkey Park" to the west, and "Inuyama Castle" and "Ikiyama" beyond that, and if you turn a little, you can also see "Gifu Station Building" and "Nippon Line Unuma Forest". We could also see the buildings in front of Nagoya Station to the south.
You can also enjoy the autumn leaves from mid-November to early December,
so I think this is a great location."

"November 21, 2021
Feeling like doing a little hiking, I decided to climb Mt. Tsugusakao.
Along the way, I enjoyed admiring the autumn leaves and listening to the sounds of the monkeys in Monkey Park.
It took about an hour to reach the summit after joining the hiking trail from Jakkoin Temple.
From the observation deck, you can see all the way to Mt. Ibuki, and for such an easy climb, the scenery is spectacular.
The summit is divided into three directions, and while it says it's 55 minutes to get to Ooboraike Pond, once you get there, you'll have no motivation to come back.
We took the train to Inuyama Station and then a taxi back."

"I walked the Tokai Nature Trail from Jakkoin Temple. There are some gently sloping rocky areas along the way, but even a beginner like me had no problem. However, there are a lot of pebbles, so be careful not to slip.
The view from the observation deck, 273m above sea level, is spectacular, with a panoramic view of the Nobi Plain! Below you can see the cityscapes of Inuyama and Kakamigahara, with the Kiso River at the center, and although it was a bit hazy on the day I visited, you could also see the skyscrapers of Nagoya and mountain ranges such as Mt. Ibuki in the distance. The observation deck also has a roof and chairs, which is convenient."
