"You can’t rent towels here unless you’re a guest at the glamping facility next door. That’s fine but they should declare that on their website (no mention of it as of mid-August ‘22). The water was lukewarm. Maybe it’s because I went mid-summer? It does have a nice rotenburo area but the facility as a whole is a typical charmless modern Japanese building. I’ll go again in winter to see if at least the water has improved but so far it’s not a place that I’ll rush to go back to."

The Onsen Experience: Baths, Sauna, and Views
However, it's worth noting that the water temperature can be a point of consideration. Some guests have found the water to be lukewarm, especially during the summer months. While this might be a preference issue, it's something to be aware of if you're seeking very hot spring water. The building itself is described as a typical modern Japanese structure, which some might find charmless, but the natural beauty of the surroundings and the quality of the bathing facilities often outweigh this aspect for many visitors.
For those planning a visit, remember that towel rentals might be exclusive to glamping guests next door. To ensure a comfortable experience, it's highly recommended to bring your own towel or be prepared to purchase one on-site. This small preparation can make a big difference in enjoying your day at Tengu Onsen.
