"It was rebuilt in 2023 and has become a wonderful museum.

It's closer than I expected, about a 35-minute drive from my parents' home in Daimon.

Heisei Tanaka's work and his life of living to the age of 107 are very moving.

He lost two of his three children to cholera.

I think it's amazing that he was able to crawl back up from the depths of despair, when he was unable to create.

I highly recommend you go and see it."

"This is a museum with wonderful architecture.
Across the street from the museum is a lush garden, which you can relax and look at from the large windows on the third floor of the museum.
It's great that you can see the wooden sculptures, but also bronze sculptures, in glass cases 360°.
You can feel the power and story behind them.
This time, there was also a special exhibition of Kagamijishi, so I was lucky. 🤩
As a side note, if you are interested in Tanaka's sculptures, please check out the lucky figure sculpture of Aritoku Fukuraisonzo, made by Hirakushi Tanaka in 1970, at the museum in the East Annex of Takashimaya, Namba, Osaka. 💞
By the way, the full-scale replica of Tamamushi Zushi from Horyuji Temple in Nara is also wonderful. ☺️"

"I parked my car and walked around the building following the signs, but there was no door in what seemed to be the front.
?
But upon closer inspection, there it was!
A large, black, automatic door that swings sideways.
It was so big that I mistook it for just a wall.
Pulling myself together, I went inside and found myself in a spacious lobby!
A photo of a kagami-jishi lion was waiting for me on the wall.
First, I took the elevator to the third floor and looked around the exhibits.
The exhibition room was clean, spacious, and I felt at ease when I toured.
After proceeding to the third and second floors, I finally came face to face with the kagami-jishi lion on the first floor.
It was breathtaking.
So impressive.
This alone is worth coming to see.
Comparing it to the statue of Onoe Kikugorou, clad only in a loincloth, makes the visit even more moving.
I actually wanted to take photos of the kagami-jishi from multiple angles, including the front, side, and back, but photography was prohibited, so I only took pictures of the display panel in the lobby."
