Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently awestruck by the sheer magnificence and ancient beauty of the Yamataka Jindai-zakura, often describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime sight. The unique 'Space Sakura' adds an intriguing modern twist. While access can be a bit challenging, the experience is widely considered worth the effort, even in less-than-ideal weather.

"I visited during a rainy day, but it was still spectacular. The photos cannot reveal the full beauty of it. There's not just one cherry blossom tree but a bunch with my favorite being the space sakura (宇宙神代桜)."

"It's a bit hard to come (by walking), but it's worth it.
I come on 28-3-2025, almost all sakura tree is bloom including The Jindai Zakura. I'm very lucky since Tokyo still not mankai 2 days ago."

YT LYE

"Go! Just go! I went in the pouring rain and if I catch a cold and die, it will still have been worth it. This is a beautiful little temple complex, technically open all the time but there are no lights at night. One of Japan's top three famous trees is here - a whopping 1000 years old and still blooming. No picture I take will come close to capturing the beauty of it. Also on site is an offspring of this famous Jindai Zakura, grown from a seed that flew on the International Space Station and then sprouted near its parent. There are other famous trees here, it's a small place, but I walked through twice. During normal hours there are two little shops on site - one sells the regular shrine charms for peace, health, etc. The other sells jewelry and other small items with petals from the Space Cherry inside. Just offsite are food and produce vendors, and there are restrooms on site. Definitely follow the transit directions on the website if you go by train - Google Maps wanted me to take a 5.5 hour route, it's really just under 2 hours if you catch the Limited Express to Matsumoto.
This particular Limited Express does require an extra fee even if you don't reserve a seat, so hit up a green ticket machine before you get on. If it's possible to die of beauty, make sure your affairs are in order before you visit!"
