What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hitoyoshi Onsen is lauded for its beautifully renovated historic ryokans, offering a blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. Guests rave about the exquisite dining, the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, and the high-quality, mineral-rich onsen waters. The scenic river views from rooms are a consistent highlight, making it a truly memorable and relaxing experience.
"In Hitoyoshi. We visited and stayed 2 nights. We reserved the room through email and the reservation was straightforward. We were given a Japanese style room that is the same as the one shown in the Natsume anime. There is a sizable collectibles for Natsume including Nyanko sensei. The outdoor hotspring is fantastic but a little too hot. The indoor one is just right. The spring water feels silky. The food is amazing and changes everyday. The lady boss is so friendly and came to talk to us every meal."

"After being devastated by flood, this remarkable historic ryokan has reopened after an extensive and sympathetic renovation. The old-school elegance has been maintained, while key areas such as the dining room and outdoor hot springs have been modernised to exacting standards.
The food here is excellent, and the river views from the rooms are unbeatable. The onsen waters here are also extremely good - well worth a special trip.
Pros:
- Excellent renovation of a historic building
- Large rooms with great views
- Dinner and breakfast were varied, imaginative, and very delectable
- Amazing hospitality and service
- Great hot spring, with modern outdoor onsen and also private baths for families
Cons:
- Classic ryokan, so you won't get a bath or shower in your room
- On the pricier side, though certainly worth the cost if within your budget
- One of the two indoor baths, as well as the private baths, have been left unrenovated, which may not be a preferred aesthetic for some"
