What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Isshiki Beach is praised for its clean water and family-friendly, relaxed atmosphere, offering a pleasant escape from city life. Visitors appreciate the scenic mountain views and the opportunity for children to discover crabs. However, the beach can get crowded on weekends, and parking is difficult and expensive. The lack of free public showers and nearby convenience stores are noted drawbacks.
"Relaxing beach right on the coast of Hayama. Went on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite crowded, the same level as neighboring beaches such as Zushi, and parking is difficult and expensive (400 yen for 20 minutes), if you can find a spot. Water is much nicer than other spots , and has some beach houses that don’t interfere with the atmosphere. Good for families and smaller groups, saw lots of dogs and kids.
No showers unless you want to pay, there’s a public toilet, and you can pay to dispose some trash as well."

"The beach is right next to the museum and the emperor's villa. The kids loved this beach because there were so many crabs on the rocks! We can also rent boats, fishing rods, etc. Water quality is very good!"

"It is ok to escape Tokyo on a sunny weekend day. The beach is reasonable, waves are gentle, perfect for small kids. There is absolutely no structure: no shower, toilets, shops, nothing. A few school giving stand up and life saving classes. The water is cold but not freezing."

Understanding the Beach Experience
While the beach is beautiful, it's important to note that it can get crowded on sunny weekends, and parking is often difficult and expensive. For a more tranquil visit, consider going on a weekday or arriving early. The surrounding area has an affluent feel, and the beach is situated near notable landmarks like the museum and the Emperor's villa, adding a touch of historical context to your visit.
Key takeaway: Isshiki Beach is a great choice for families and those seeking a cleaner, quieter beach experience near Tokyo, provided you plan for potential crowds and limited free facilities. The scenic mountain views are an added bonus.
Navigating to and Around Isshiki Beach
For those who prefer to drive, parking is available but can be a significant challenge, especially during peak times. The parking lots can fill up quickly, and fees can be substantial, sometimes charged by the minute. This often leads visitors to recommend public transport as a less stressful alternative. If you do drive, aim to arrive very early in the morning to increase your chances of finding a spot.
Once you're at the beach, getting around is straightforward. The beach itself is walkable, and the nearby attractions are easily accessible on foot. For exploring further afield, the bus service from Zushi Station is your primary option for onward travel.
