Visitors note that Benten Daiba Park is primarily of historical interest, with few physical remains of the original battery. It's a place for those keen on the Shinsengumi's last stand, offering signboards and monuments rather than grand structures. The park is adjacent to Hakodate Dock and offers some views towards Minato.
"Hmm.. For history nerds."

"2023.5 Currently, there is only a signboard in a corner of the park, along with the last Shinsengumi monument. As the area rapidly developed after the Meiji Restoration, land reclamation was carried out, docks were built, and with the passage of time, traces of the battery can no longer be seen. It is said that Toshizo Hijikata was killed by a bullet from the new government while riding his horse from Goryokaku to this place to rescue the isolated Bentenmisaki Battery."

"A historical site located in Bentencho, Hakodate City.
In the past, there was a platform for cannons built for Hakodate's maritime security. The designer was Hizaburo Takeda, the same as Goryokaku. It was shaped like a scalene hexagon. It is also the last place where the Shinsengumi fought during the Hakodate War.
Nowadays, the surrounding sea has been reclaimed and there are almost no traces of the time. A historic marker has been erected near Hakodate Dotsuku, and an information board has been installed at Irifune Children's Park next to Itsukushima Shrine, which is where the name comes from."
