Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Arashio Stable for the unique and free opportunity to witness authentic sumo training. The chance for post-practice photos with wrestlers is a highlight. However, the experience can be crowded, and securing a good viewing spot requires arriving very early. Some visitors also note the presence of inconsiderate tourists.

"Exactly as previous comments indicated - It gets really crowded and unless you get here really early, it’s hard to catch a good angle to watch the practice. We arrived an hour prior and there were already 30 people by the window. There are private tours to watch it inside and close to the rink but they cost around 100/person in this and other sumo wrestling schools as well."

"Fun experience to do in Tokyo! Check the schedule beforehand on their website, it's up to date. Would recommend going early, on the day I went, they finished training around ~9am then came out to take pictures with everyone."

Ludivine Ni

"Got up early and travelled over to see an early morning training session. There were already a little crowd forming to watch. It was a great experience to see the Sumo practice. If you have space in your trip, definitely try and get out here to have a watch. Since it's a less popular area, it is good area to have a casual walk around to see Tokyo."

Navigating the Sumo Stable Experience

Visiting Arashio Stable requires a bit of planning to make the most of the experience. The primary challenge is managing the crowds, as this free activity is highly sought after. Arriving by 6:45 AM is strongly recommended to secure a decent viewing spot by the window. InstagramReddit This early start ensures you can observe the entire training session without being blocked by later arrivals. The stable is located in the Ryogoku area, which is easily accessible by Tokyo's subway system, with Hamacho and Ningyocho stations being the closest. Reddit

Refrain from using flash photography and be mindful of where you position your phone or camera to avoid blocking others' views. Reddit Wearing light-colored clothing is discouraged as it can reflect light and create glare on the windows, hindering visibility for everyone. Reddit

Beyond the practice itself, there's a chance for a unique interaction. After training concludes, wrestlers sometimes come out to greet visitors and may even pose for photos. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a memento of your visit. Reddit Always check the stable's official website for the most up-to-date training schedule, as practices can be subject to change.
