What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hakata Furyu is highly praised for its delicious, rich tonkotsu ramen and generous free noodle refills, offering excellent value in Akihabara. While some find the broth a bit salty, the flavorful toppings, tender chashu, and well-prepared eggs are consistently lauded. It's a small, efficient spot perfect for solo diners or small groups seeking an authentic ramen experience.
"So good. Tried a few ramen stores in Japan and this the one that we like the most. Thick and flavourful soup, 2 extra complimentary kaedama, free flow of garlic and other condiments. Best of all the pickle that they have is delicious. It's spicy though. The only store that we actually tasted flavour in the egg.
So glad that we found this shop by seeing a local walking into it without hesitation."

"Apparently this is a famous ramen shop among the tourists. The pricing is reasonable considering it is right in the middle of Akihabara.
The staff all mainly local Japanese but most of the menu and ordering has an option of English. Was told that each person should order one bowl of Ramen. And you are not sure what how would you like your ramen, the staff will recommend you to order "medium".
We order multiple type, to our taste bug, the garlic oil broth is the best. But most of the broth to us are a little on the salty side.
"Ka-e-dama".. is all you need to shout to get the waiter attention to get a free portion of Ramen. Each person are entitled to have 2 FoC ramen. Don't simple order the foc portion because one free portion is a lot. I think it is thr same amount of noodle as the primary bowl.
Their chashu (the slice of meat) is kindly of nice because from the picture you can see it the grain is very visible. I think it is either a loin or shoulder meat. Unlike most of chashu in ramen using the pork belly. Eventhough it is lean loin/shoulder meat, it is still very tender."

"The miso pork ramen and spicy miso ramen were great and you can order refill of noodles for free! However, beware there is only pork options and everyone has to order a ramen (which makes sense but I don’t eat a lot so I wanted to share a ramen with my partner and couldn’t). It’s a very small place so not suitable for a big group."

The Art of Kaedama: Unlimited Noodles
When you're ready for your refill, simply signal the staff by saying 'Kaedama!' You can also specify your preferred noodle firmness, whether you like them soft, medium, or firm, adding a personalized touch to your meal. This attention to detail is what sets Hakata Furyu apart for many ramen enthusiasts.
It's important to note that the kaedama is intended to complement your initial bowl, not to be shared. Each person ordering a ramen is entitled to their free refills, reinforcing the restaurant's policy that everyone should order their own bowl.
Navigating the Vending Machine Order System
Simply insert your cash, select your desired ramen from the illuminated buttons, and press the confirmation. You'll receive a ticket, which you then hand over to the staff upon being seated. This system ensures efficiency and minimizes interaction time, allowing the kitchen to focus on preparing your delicious ramen.
It's a good idea to have a general idea of what you want before approaching the machine. While English is available, familiarizing yourself with common ramen terms like 'tonkotsu' (pork bone broth) or 'miso' can be helpful. If you're unsure, the staff can often guide you, and ordering 'medium' is a safe bet for broth consistency.
Beyond the Broth: Flavorful Toppings and Condiments
The ramen egg is another highlight, often described as having a perfectly cooked, jammy yolk and a distinct, delicious flavor that complements the broth. Furthermore, the restaurant provides a free-flow station with various condiments. This often includes fresh garlic, chili oil, and a unique, delicious pickle that many diners rave about.
These additions allow you to customize your ramen to your exact preference. Whether you want to add a garlicky punch, a spicy kick, or a tangy contrast, the condiment bar offers the perfect way to personalize your Hakata Furyu experience.
