History of Amar Mahal Palace
Amar Mahal Palace was built in the 19th century as a residence of the Dogra king, Raja Amar Singh. Lush green patches and meadowlands surround it. It was the last residence of Dogra Kings. After that, it became a residence for Maharani Tara Devi. She was Raja Hari Singh’s wife. After the queen died in 1967, her son and his wife converted the palace into a museum in 1975. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated it. All this was done to preserve the Jammu district’s rich past.

"Amar Mahal Palace was the castle where tha King lived during last two decades. Built in European style in front of Tawi River. The view of the city jammu and the river view is so beautiful. Now the mahal is converted into a museum. The staff posted in the museum is very good and explain in detail. The Throne is big and beautiful. The pictures photos and drawing are kept. The hall is decorated with tiles and glass. The bathroom was constructed with modern facilities like bath tub mirror closet shower etc. The entrance fee is little higher concerned authorities should look to reduce the fees."

"A Beautiful palace situated on a hill with Tawi river view.. a perfect tourist place for the people visiting Jammu.
100Rs Ticket is fine but 250rs for Witnessing Queen’s room is not worthy..
There were also students who were indulged into live painting festivals session for upcoming Tawi river festival!
All in all a very good Vibe a must place to be added in your itinerary if u are planning to visit Jammu!"
