What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Volterra Psychiatric Hospital Museum for its deeply moving and historically significant guided tours, highlighting the guides' passion and knowledge. While some find the cost high given limited building access, the emotional impact and the human stories shared make it a worthwhile and unforgettable experience for most.
"For real the best lost Place in the world I’ve been so far. It’s easy to access trough the old street( watch out for Cops/Cams), and be careful of falling roofs.‼️The atmosphere there is quite scary if you know the History behind the Manicomio🪦, I highly recommend reading the story before entering the place, not only is it incredibly interesting but also quite sad 😔 If you have the opportunity visiting this place, DO IT"
Ivan Dovicovic
"Although the pavilions aren't open to visitors, the guided tour is truly worth it, so much so that seeing the structures from the inside is almost secondary. What I found was a journey that moved me and, above all, brought to life the stories of people who risk being forgotten forever. The tour is thought-provoking, but never sad or depressing; on the contrary, it leaves you with the feeling of taking a little piece of Volterra home with you."
Marty Mancuso
"The experience was a bit so-so. Nothing to complain about the guide, who was clearly very knowledgeable about the subject, but honestly, spending €20 each to tour around the buildings without being able to see anything, but only hearing the stories, is really excessive. We spent €40 for two, and honestly, I could have just read a lot of it online. Knowing the history of what happened in the past is always positive, but the eyes also need their share, to fully enjoy the experience, which lasted about two hours. If you know everything is closed, lower the price of the tour.
NB: the installation of the "statues" is no longer there."
